The first expedition vessel of the Norwegian shipbuilder Viking was launched

The first Viking expedition vessel, the Viking Octantis, was launched by the Norwegian shipbuilder Vard on 22 December, marking a milestone in construction. After launching, the vessel was redirected to the nearest dock for further interior finishing. After final outfitting, Viking Octantis will be delivered at Fincantieri’s Vard shipyard in Søviknes, Norway. Both Vard shipyards in Tulcea, Romania, and in Søviknes are in charge of this ship project.

Scheduled to debut in early 2022, the Viking Octantis will travel to Antarctica and the Great Lakes of North America. «We are delighted to continue our partnership with VARD Fincantieri and celebrate this important milestone in the construction of our first expedition vessel», — commented Thorstein Hagen, Chairman of the Board of Viking.
