Baltic index falls for the fifth day due to weak demand by segment

The main sea freight index of the Baltic Stock Exchange is falling under the pressure of lower rates across all segments. The overall index, which takes into account rates for vessels such as Capesize, Panamax and Supramax, fell 45 points, or 1.4%, to 3179. The capesize index was down 56 points, or about 1.7%, to 3293. The panamax index fell by 81 points, or 1.9%, to 4160 points. The supramax index fell 15 points to 2920 points.

Baltic Dry Index (BDI) is a trading index calculated daily by the Baltic Exchange. The index reflects the cost of transportation of dry cargo (coal, ore, grain, etc.)
