Small-Scale LNG Summit concluded at the Ramada Plaza Milano hotel in Milan, Italy on February 20th. Best practices from companies and organisations across the LNG value chain were shared along with informative presentations by industry experts who play an important role in the field of small-scale LNG development.
The whole day was chaired by Andrew Clifton, General Manager of SIGTTO. Under his expert guidance, a number of speakers gave insightful presentations on solutions for small-scale LNG. The event started off with Anton Marco Fantolini from Saipem outlining why small-scale LNG solutions are a smart choice. More distinctively, the presentation covered a portfolio of solutions and products that Saipem has developed to ensure smooth small-scale LNG regasification and natural gas liquefaction, driven by such needs as specific technology expertise, low CAPEX, transportability, safety and environmental aspects. Reiterating the need for unique solutions, Lorenz Claes from GTT introduced the avid audience to the new concepts of small-scale LNG storage for the power generating industry worldwide.
The emphasis on innovation in this sector did not lessen during other sessions. Jan Kurel, Senior Sales Manager for LNG systems at Chart, gave a talk titled LNG Small-Scale Application from A to Z, where he highlighted the new generation of vehicle fueling station “Compact 3 in 1 “ which represents a new technical concept and introduces a series of new features that further improve efficiency while reducing operating and installation costs. In a similar theme, Jani Hautaluoma of Valmet Automation presented the company’s DNA Integrated Operations, a technological solution for the operation of the infrastructure and supply chain management, mastering the control of the entire LNG supply chain, consisting of production plants, terminals, liquefaction and logistics.
Other important issues were reviewed during panel discussions on opportunities for small-scale LNG, developing SSLNG infrastructure and transportation by speakers from various LNG companies, including Gas Natural Fenosa, Baker Hughes, a GE company, Tractebel and Creon Capital. The key takeaway from the Summit was that small-scale LNG is not just a miniature version of its large-scale counterpart, but its own entity with specific functionalities and tailor-made methods of operation. It needs unique solutions, which were presented during the Wisdom Events organised Summit.
As the day came to a close, discussions were replaced with an elegant Awards Ceremony, where companies were awarded for their most outstanding achievements in various categories. Determined by a public vote, the winners were: The Leading Cryogenic Solutions Provider — Chart; Vanzetti Engineering won The Most Outstanding Italian Service Provider Award; The Most Accomplished EPC Contractor Award went to Saipem; Gas Natural Fenosa got the award for The Most Exceptional Contribution to Development of LNG Value Chain; The Most Supportive Gas Institution — GIE; Gate Terminal became The Most Efficient LNG Terminal Operator; The Most Innovative Bunkering Project Award was won by ENGIE and The Most Substantial Contribution to Development of LNG Infrastructure Award went to Snam.
