The survivor, a 31-year-old Georgian citizen, was spotted by a search plane at approximately 8:00 pm on Sunday evening. He was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment, and then quarantined due to COVID-19. The officers who contacted him will also be quarantined as a precautionary measure. The seaman is a member of the crew of the Kampur tanker, which is currently anchored near Melbourne. The reason for his departure from the vessel is being investigated and officials from several Australian regulatory agencies will board and inspect the vessel when it docks on Wednesday.
