A long-term cooperation agreement between Danish Maersk and German Hapag-Lloyd within the framework of the new Gemini Cooperation network came into force on February 1, Hapag-Lloyd announced.
The partnership involves the exchange of container ships. In total, almost 340 vessels will be gradually added to the new network. The transition period will last until the end of May — the vessels will be integrated after the expiration of previous contracts with other carriers.
It is expected that after the phased introduction of the fleet, the reliability of transportation schedules will reach more than 90%. The cooperation covers key trade routes:
- Asia/Northern Europe
- Asia/Mediterranean
- Middle East/India/Europe
- Asia/USA (East and West Coast)
- Transatlantic
The Gemini network will also set new industry standards in terms of sustainability and contribute to the companies’ ongoing decarbonization efforts. “Thanks to our efficient hub & spoke operating system, we can deploy larger vessels and thus simultaneously optimize speed, reduce downtime and thus reduce carbon emissions. All this is economical
