BARCELONA Metropolitan Transport (TMB) has received the first of 12 metro trains on order from Alstom and CAF at a total cost of €92m. The first series 9000 five-car Alstom train is expected to enter service on Line 4 in the second half of December, and TMB expects to receive the second train for Line 4 in mid-December. The 10 CAF trains will be delivered in the first half of 2020 with four series 6000 trains going to Line 1, two series 5000 trains to Line 3, and four series 5000 trains to Line 5. The 142 cars on order will increase capacity on these four lines by 8.5% and, coupled with infrastructure improvements, will enable TMB to operate 9.2% more trains during peak hours by the end of 2021. Alstom is also supplying 42 five-car trains under a €268.1m contract awarded in July for operation on lines 1 and 3.
