DP World, a leading provider of integrated logistics solutions, and the Somali government have opened a new container terminal in the port of Berbera after completing the first phase of the port’s expansion as part of its transformation into a major regional hub.

The new terminal was officially opened by His Excellency Muse Bihi Abdi, President of Somaliland, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, at a special event attended by over 200 guests. The event included a symbolic laying of the foundation for Berber’s new economic zone, the first phase of which is under construction.
The new container terminal with a 400 m berth and three ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes can handle the largest container vessels. DP World has pledged to invest up to $ 442 million in port development and expansion.
