Despite the pandemic and the container shortage crisis, China’s sea and river ports performed well. Freight turnover in 2020 increased by 4.3% to 14.55 billion tons. This is shown by the data of the National Bureau of Statistics of the PRC. The volume of container traffic is 264.3 million TEU. This figure is 1.2% higher than the previous one. The cargo turnover of sea (coastal) ports in 2020 increased by 3.2% — up to 8.67 billion tons.
We have already written recently that the cost of delivering goods from China to Europe has quadrupled and reached a record level. This rise in prices was driven by a shortage of containers and a recovery in consumer demand.
