The world’s largest single seizure of the drug

Greece’s financial crimes unit (SDOE), in cooperation with coast guard and drug enforcement officers, has seized a record-breaking amount of amphetamine Captagon pills at the Piraeus Port.

A total of 5,250 kilograms of pills, worth an estimated USD 660 million, were found in three containers.

SDOE did not identify the ship on which the drugs were being transported, noting only that the vessel had come from Syria and was en route to China. The authorities are still working on determining whether the final destination of the narcotics was China.

It took a team of 20 personnel an entire week to uncover over 33 million tablets hidden in the three containers.

The unit added that this was the world’s largest single seizure of the drug.

An investigation to identify persons involved in the case is also underway.
